Depending on the team you join there are sub-cultures that don't live up to Atlassian values. I was part of a team with incredibly talented engineers that was asked to support another teams code just so that team can do greenfield development and go fast. We're not contractors but it gave the impression our group were 2nd class citizen. The basis of this appears to be based on tribalism formed through referrals or ex-[company] people. This still continues even today after the org has now evolved and things have improved. While I doubt anyone intended this outcome there was an air of condescension from one senior leader that tried to dismiss these concerns.

working 100% async with managers and teammates all over the world in a non-tech role is difficult. The team I was on was very afraid to try new things and rock the boat and my leader didn't understand or support what I wanted to do. The culture is very unclear as new execs and employees push "productivity and efficiency" but the employees act like it's still a start up with a chip on it's shoulder. The performance management system claims to not stack rank people on teams but that's exactly what it does, they just call it something different.
