California based employees and candidates beware

Pros

If you work in Austin and get in good with the team you may have growth opportunities.

Cons

Ever since the acquisition by Thoma Bravo, Auctane seem to be going out of their way to undermine the foundation of what made the company so attractive and profitable in the first place. The team that built the company is almost entirely gone. The reins of the company were handed over to the Austin office and they seem intent on rolling back the clock and acting like and making all of the mistakes of a startup, ignoring the knowledge base and advice of more senior and experienced minds in favor of their Austin based friends. It isn't only executives and senior management that left the building, the people that do the day-to-day work of keeping a company of that size running smoothly have left in frustration from being ignore, overworked, and sidelined all at once. It is only after the people have given notice that the Austin team scrambles to try and learn what they do, asking for the advice they had ignored all along. They have resorted to paying people to be consultants because they don't know how to perform the vital functions that keep a company moving forward. The California team continues to work from home which helps to shield the average employee from the reality of the situation, they are often shocked when they hear about the people that are no longer with the company People who have thought their positions were safe sometimes discover too late that they were not. If you tough it out to make the best of it, if they decide they don't like you they will find or create excuses to let you go regardless of performance, this will take the form of conflicting directions and setting you up for failure. The California team continues to try and promote a culture of community but without the support of the Austin office it doesn’t get much traction. Expect not to know much about what’s going on at the headquarters either because you won’t know about the Austin only Slack channel.

Schizophrenic, cliquey and lacking focus

Pros

Nice new office in Austin, TX. Reasonable work/life balance. Product which goes solve customer needs in the marketplace.

Cons

One prominent Sales leader called their peer in a different territory an enemy; Employee recognition awards were determined based on a random "spin of the wheel". Priorities change all the time with little explanation. If you happen to be part of the "in crowd", you might get some direction. If not, you're on your own to navigate a sea of territorial behavior and unwritten rules where career success is vague and depends more on who you know than how you perform. Seems more like a lot of folks attempting to make their personal career mark than a unified workforce coming together for customers.

Empty Promises

Pros

The pros: eCommerce logistics is a great industry to be in especially with the pandemic and afterwards. Next, the non-management people (though there are some great mid-level managers) are hard working and friendly.

Cons

The environment often seems very chaotic. Several VPs and above shift business priorities and fail to communicate it downwards. Also, there is a lot of management by emotion which fails to lead or develop non-management. Instead, there are a lot of people who either get fired (with a "please sign here" severance) or quit. In some cases, two that I am aware of, people are fired without being told why. They quiet them by offering a severance and having them release any claims they may have. Further, there is a definite management clique. They keep and promote based on who they like rather than who has proven leadership and technical skills. As a result, there are many in management with over inflated titles in comparison to their resume and accomplishments. This is what I believe results in the chaos and quite frankly, loss of great talent. There is also a lot of bureaucracy to get things done. Layers and layers of conversations and approvals lead to delays in actually getting anything done. Since the acquisitions, aside from the toxic rhetoric, there were many promises made to many of us. Promises of promotions, career pathing, raises, etc. These promises were either broken or moved into limbo. Unless you're in the aforementioned clique, then there was no chance of a promise being kept. I had high hopes when the TB acquisition was announced but think that TB made a critical error in their choice of CEO (resulting in a cascade of management choices that were ill-born). We were promised a brighter future that now, I understand, was a promise only for a select few.
