Pros

Insane amount of perks from free lunch, really generous tuition reimbursement, to ping pong and massages in the office. Part of the Amazon family. The external perception of a good company. Generous compensation despite many people complaining about it (everyone always forgets about the stock). Some smart coworkers.

Cons

Senior management has no idea what they're doing. There's internal meltdowns happening all the time and meanwhile, they're spending millions on revitalizing the Newark community. Lots of top, smart, senior folks leaving by the droves. There's also a culture of entitlement that's pervasive throughout tech right now. So many people saying, "I can make more at X." Ok...so go there - that's what I did. It's not helped by management. Too much exception-making going on when people complain. This leads to the squeaky wheel getting the oil while the actual high performers who have their heads down doing work getting screwed and end up leaving. No sense of corporate identity. There's an obvious attempt to be different from Amazon but they can't figure out how aside from spending superfluously on things that employees take for granted or don't care about. The Amazon principles are used for the hiring and interviewing but reviews and promotions are based on a different set of nebulous criteria. Many of the negative reviews mentioned a sense of favoritism and this is why.

Mismanaged and Little Room for Growth

Pros

Very understanding of work/family balance and flexibility to WfH. The business is doing tremendously well, and you would think that would mean happy employees, but...

Cons

Unfortunately there are limited opportunities for career growth. Recruiters tout multiple opportunities per year for promotions but I haven't seen the rapid upward movement they speak about. Audible/Amazon degrades the value of your experience. They'll often bring you in a level lower than you were previously, claiming that their Director role is the equivalent of a Senior Director role elsewhere. This is bad for employee morale, as before you even enter a company, you're undervalued. Also, I have found the disparity they claim is between their role definition and other companies is non-existent. Very disappointing to find out that you shouldn't have taken a title and salary hit...

Boring, but somehow stressful.

Pros

Free lunch Amazon stock vests after one year of service Good parental leave Not expected to work long hours or on weekends

Cons

Boring corporate structure and boring office. Very little personality in the company, and the brand. Desperately wants to move quickly like a startup, but doesn’t have the flexibility or technology to make it happen. Too many processes in place that have single points of failure. CRO is signing off on marketing plans and making product decisions. So much business jargon. Antiquated internal Amazon tools make easy things difficult. Newark is so far from NYC and there is nothing to do. Can’t run any errands at lunch time. No camaraderie after work because no one wants to hang out in Newark after work.
