Pros

I meant to write this with more positive spin, but I can’t actually think of anything central office does that makes my life easier. There’s a strong union, but that’s more in response to the lack of support from the district

Cons

I don’t control the AC or heating in my classroom, and and it often doesn’t work. Pay wise, AISD is not good at working the (insane) TEA and TIA funding shenanigans. TIA is unavailable to me, purely because I don’t teach a STAAR tested subject. Oh, I’m using a student Chromebook as my work laptop, because they have refused to give me an actual laptop since the previous one I have broke. And it took 4 months for them to even acknowledge that my old laptop broke, despite me incessantly messaging IT. This is all just a sampler. I appreciate that they are trying to be better, but when I right it all out, it’s a bit of a wonder I still work at this district

Pros

Retirement and benefits are pretty good

Cons

I worked there in 2017-2019. The networking department and help desk department were run by micromanagers who will berate you for being an independent thinker. Then when you just do what you are told w/o question, they berate you for not taking initiative. There is also, no organized training for new employees. It’s just “hurry up and learn” on the fly. My manager also send me out all over the city to troubleshoot with equipment in my own car and then would consistently call and ask where I am and why it’s taking so long.

Pros

Depending on your campus some autonomy and trust you know your job. Summers and weekends off unless you need a second job due to pay. Understanding that you have children. Building relationships with students, helping them and watching them grow.

Cons

Pay hardly improves, a lot of politics affecting every part of the job. Micromanaging depending on your principal, could have behavior issues with kids, required to work late without extra pay sometimes and no over time.
