Bureaucracy at its worst!

Pros

Tons of paid time off and flexible hours in some departments.

Cons

Takes months to get anything done and they don't fire people who aren't productive. Tons of super grumpy, lazy people who show up and do just about nothing all day long. Horrible environment to work in if you are at all create and fast paced.

Pros

In the administrative side of education, the hours are typical of other employers downtown. There is a lot of flexibility in schedules. Bottom line is getting the job done required to expected within the expected time frame given. We are here to support the kids and the personnel working at all the schools.

Cons

Working downtown can be a pain with all the construction happening. Parking can be an issue sometimes. It would be great if 'telecommute' was allowed when it is applicable.

Pros

Being able to work with students in my community has been amazing. Most staff members are great to work with, but like all places there are always some rotten apples. Compensation definitely needs to improve which is what might drive me away from the field, but otherwise do enjoy it here.

Cons

Compensation is extremely low compared to the other urban districts in Texas and low for the cost of living here in Austin. Deadlines always seem emerge out of thin air. Don't seem to feel as appreciated as one should. Would be nice to feel more like other professionals and be compensated based on time, effort, results, experience, and specializations not just based on some whacky ladder that gives you .01% every other year.
