Pros

Holidays and vacation time, and position and pay CAN be decent (if lucky enough to get the right job, in the right department with the right boss; if not, you may choose to not be around long).

Cons

Biased management, lack of leadership, inconsistency in treatment, favors seniority over merit. No merit increases, flat raises (if lucky) that only help to cover the annual increase of insurance costs.

It’s close to my house. I had a planning period everyday, but I had too many meetings scheduled during them.

Cons

Have to pay Social Security but you will not be able to collect it due to The Texas Windfall. I did not feel safe from students AND cruel teachers and I taught in one of the best neighborhoods in Austin. But the school is so terrible that the neighborhood children all go to Bowie HS or private schools.
