Pros

Some schools give early childhood teachers large, spacious rooms and lots of materials. Most other teachers are supportive of new teachers and want them to succeed. Some administrators will try to support teachers' efforts to get kids to behave by reaching out to the parents themselves, etc.

Cons

In the high poverty schools the administration has extremely unrealistic expectations for both behavior and academics. They expect four year olds from high poverty, broken homes to behave perfectly, and it is entirely the teacher's fault if this does not happen. The district is all over the board with their philosophies-early childhood department says one thing, vice principal another, the principal another, the counselor another, an instructional coach says a different thing, etc. Although they try to support struggling teachers by giving suggestions, they do it in such a disorganized way that they end up making things worse for the struggling teacher and her students. They will tell you to be consistent, but make it impossible for you to be consistent because different higher ups are always telling you to change things in different ways.

minimal salary increase. % increase we do get gets wiped out by increase in insurance and Teacher Retirement increases
