Pros

Benefits are good, depending on the Area you work in, you have a lot of autonomy as a teacher.

Cons

Area 2 has too many mandates on teachers, planning periods are not respected and meetings are scheduled, the amount of work expected for teachers is untenable.

Pros and cons, but good probably still outweighs the bad

Pros

Ability to grow or transfer internally. Good benefits and part of Teacher Retirement System - pension benefits. Can not beat the extended holidays and accumulate vacation, on top of sick and personal leave. Great work/life balance!

Cons

As with most places, the speed of growth or the opportunity for growth is at times slowed by politics and which department you are a part of (some are better than others). Inconsistent management (leadership), double standards, and no pay increases based on merit; therefore little incentive for some to work hard, and those that work hard are not always the ones rewarded. Health benefits are still pretty good when compared to what is out there, but struggling with all the changes and rising cost of healthcare. No continuing education or tuition reimbursement and internal training lacks, which is frustrating for those that care about continuously learning and growing. Only retirement is TRS, no employer contributions here and the contributions are currently a mandatory 7.7% which is a big chunk of change in addition to all the taxes paid (including social security) and insurance premiums. Brings your pay down really quickly.
