Pros

Austin has tons of elementary schools. Many of them have dual language programs. Most have after school programs as well.

Cons

The pay is terrible. All surrounding districts pay more. The stipend for having a Master's degree is a mere $800 per year! A district as large as AISD should pay their teachers a comparable amount.

Pros

Plenty of time off, good benefits, retirement plan, various random freebies and perks from working within schools that apply to all staff, a good environment with generally friendly, helpful, and happy employees.

Cons

Very low budget (although this somewhat depends on the specific school you're at), changes in policy/leadership/technology/equipment take place very often, and they're usually slow and painful to implement, high rate of employee turnover, and while teachers aren't paid quite enough, support and classified staff are paid peanuts.

Pros

The Perez Campus is an open and accepting environment with supportive, friendly, and hard working staff.

Cons

Data driven, fast paced, losing sight of whole child learning in grades 3-5.
