Pros

Overall most employees are motivated, extremely capable and see the opportunity the company presents. There is a real sense of pride in what has been created and what will be created next, along with a pride in everything orange. Lots of opportunity for people willing to put in the effort.

Cons

Management does not sugar coat the fact that there is a lot of work to do and it is a very sales-oriented culture. Some of the fundamentals are missing for a company of this size such as a 401k match and the benefits package is average.

Pros

Devoted leadership, work-life balance, incredible product opportunity to define an emerging market category, low customer churn, above-average benefits, ability to define your own path to excellence

Cons

Not too many serious issues. Avalara has some technical debt, lack of leadership focus, and modest equity offers considering the pre-IPO nature of the company. Growing pains are inevitable when you are becoming an enterprise.

Pros

There is a very good group vibe. You can make Avalara a very large part of you social life - in a good way - IF you live on the island.

Cons

It a very face to face culture. It's very hard to get decisions out of people without a face to face meeting, which means that people spend a lot of time in meetings. And that telecommuting is not as effective as it needs to be. Things tend to get done because someone has the authority to demand it - not because it's the best thing for the company as a whole. This means priorities change quickly and a lot.
