      Pros

      There are merit raises, occasional business travel opportunities, low pressure work environment, good benefit package.

      Cons

      Too much corporate politics, not enough career opportunities.

      Pros

      Great company to work for! Green and sustainability focused, diverse workforce with ample opportunities for advancement and favorable compensation and benefits. After almost 2 decades as a contractor, AvalonBay was really the only property management company or REIT that I considered a career change for.

      Cons

      I really have not encountered many cons at this point. Like any corporation, especially a publicly traded REIT, it can sometimes seems like changes or approvals can take some time. That said, there has been a push, since the start of my employment several years ago, towards recognizing the need to analyze every aspect of the operation, diagnose issues and make changes - especially in the areas of associate engagement and satisfaction as well as public reputation.
