Pros

A lot of free lunch.

Cons

Recruiter was clueless during the interview process. HR was non-existent during the on-boarding process. Training focused solely on customer service skills and completely neglected the absurd amount of programs and day-to-day metrics that need to be constantly managed. Training classes felt like being in a kindergarten class. Free-for-all mentality with daily work led to mass confusion and terrible performance and management from veteran employees. No one knows what they're doing.Everyone from the top down. The blind leading the blind. Avalonbay is one big contradiction implementing AI whilst veteran employees are still posting paper to apartment doors like they're Martin Luther posting his 95 thesis. Everytime you think you have a grasp on something, they pull the rug out from under you and implement something totally new. The corporate team things they are the Vatican descending upon the masses everyone they show up on-site expecting everyone to bow down to their glory. The company is transparent, but presented like rocket science. You have to be Isaac Newton to understand the bonus plan. Everything is so convuluted at this company that you just have to bite your teeth and take whatever comes your way.

Pros

Before company changes were made, it was a great company with great benefits and work/life balance. You felt like you could build lasting friendships with the people you worked with and it was an comfortable atmosphere where you enjoyed going to work every day.

Cons

Company came up with bonus compensation overhaul where they told the employees they would make more money but once it rolled out, all employees (except management) received pay cuts only to be told they would be working under more stress and pressure and more work overall for less pay even with the bonuses due to the pay cuts.

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns, and I'm sorry to hear that your experience at AvalonBay has diminished since the introduction of the new bonus plan. We made the changed based on consistent feedback from our on-site associates for a more commission-based structure with higher bonus potential. While the changes and results have been well-received by many, not all will respond as favorably. We encourage you to offer your perspective through the RS compensation surveys - they will help to influence future updates and communication.

Pros

Overall a good company to work for, but honestly the pay became almost insulting. We are taught to act like owners and go over and beyond as consultants. An average community consultant at AVB is still better quality than most but I was not compensated as such. Team atmosphere and training was really a great focus compared to other PM companies I have been with.

Cons

Pay is low, housing discount, new bonus structure. The technology used is a bit behind, too many meetings about meetings.

Thanks for your review and for sharing your thoughts. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the team work environment and the training you received. Consistent feedback in favor of a more performance-based bonus structure brought about the new bonus plan, and while many are excited about the changes and the results thus far, we realize that others are less receptive. Your feedback is appreciated and will be shared internally, and we wish you success in the future.
