Pros

Avalonbay is the best job I have ever had. I started as a maintenance technician almost 10 years ago and worked my way up to Maintenance Director. I have had a blast through the good times and worked through the bad . I recently left AvalonBay for a couple months and returned because in a nut shell no other organization is for me and AvalonBay is my home and nothing compares to the fulfillment AvalonBay offers. Again no place will ever be perfect and ups and downs will always be there but Avalonbay is the place to be! **They treat employees like family which is rare for a company of this size! **Advancement opportunities are great **leadership is amazing and overflowing ** Culture is second to none ** Challanging and rewarding Career **Great pay and Benefits **With all the internal departments and different locations throughout the USA your career path options are endless The list could go on and on just believe me when I say it's an amazing place to work

Cons

Not many come to mind but AvalonBay is not perfect in every way but they work through the cons to strive to be better, sometimes the time it takes to get to better could improve but nothing major.

Pros

The people you work with (both associates and residents) are great. There are a lot of tools to make the job easier, although they sometimes miss the mark. The hours are predictable office hours (M-F or T-Sa) and you get bonuses and paid time off, including holidays. There is room to move laterally within the company.

Cons

- Upper management does not understand the onsite experience and cannot offer useful guidance or set realistic expectations. We were expected to request reviews and to get positive NPS results, but most residents would not recommend a community where grounds are not being kept up and the rent increases significantly every year even if their service requests are done in 3 hours. - There is often a breakdown of communication between parties (management, associates, office, maintenance, residents, vendors, etc.) which makes the job harder than it needs to be. - AvalonBay is publicly traded and has a responsibility to its shareholders, but has lost sight of the human side of this people-centered business. Upper management is more concerned with profits than its own people. The worst part was getting to know a family after leasing them an apartment for 12 months and then increasing their rent 25% if they wished to renew. - General lack of loyalty and minimal career advancement opportunities. It was more common for an associate to leave AVB for another property management company and then be rehired in a higher position with a raise than for someone to actually be promoted from within. They typically hired supervisors from outside of the company and often ended up hiring incompetent or unprofessional associates.

Thanks very much for offering your feedback. I agree that much of AVB's success is owed to our incredible on-site teams, and in the importance of continuing to focus on our associates and residents. Your input will be shared internally and we wish you success in your career endeavors.

Pros

I can't think of any. I dedicated 5 years to this company to get one promotion. Our titles were assistant manager then change to customer service supervisor to sales and service supervisor essentially all the same job description but with the new bonus structure we went from getting paid in the mid $20s to less the $20 an hour. A 12% pay cut for all employees.

Cons

New bonus structure is horrible. Level of stress has risen and it feels like we have become pushy to close leases. 12% pay cut was upsetting and more insulting is they want us to believe we can potentially make more if we hit sales goals. Sales goals are too high so I've missed goal 3 months in a row and taxed on bonuses. Associate housing treats us worse then regular residents. I'm working more, stressing more and getting paid less.

Thank you for offering your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your time at AvalonBay. The new bonus plan has been widely embraced by many but we realize that not all associates favor a more commission-based structure. Your concerns will be shared internally and we wish you success in the future.
