Pros

Product discount and Eco-friendly policy

Cons

The technology is outdated. The people are ego centric, unintelligent and difficult to work with. There are few documented processes and the processes that are in place aren't followed. Cross function teams do not work well together due to competing agendas. All in all the most unproductive place I've ever worked for. Oh and don't get caught dead using a product other Than Aveda even though their products contain sulfates and are terrible for your hair. Management is comprised of a bunch of bullies that take credit for other people's successes but throw you Under the bus for failures. The phoniest people I've ever worked with.

No longer the Aveda it used to be

Pros

Great benefits. If you're a manager they send you on a three day trip/sales meeting.

Cons

Aveda is now focused on numbers and ONLY numbers. Their prices have almost tripled and the product lines are no longer as good or of the same quality that they used to be. Aveda used to be the only brand of it's kind but now with a plethora of competitive lines to chose from they struggle to make the same sales. In order to compensate for this, they force employees to have numerous events in the stores as well as call customers if you give them samples. They don't allow you to focus on your natural ability and have stores full of drones. They work their employees to the point of slavery and don't allow you to get bonuses unless you pass "secret shops" so instead of being genuine and selling from the heart, you're a ROBOT and give all of your customers rehearsed lines. Upper management is rude and insincere. They care very little for their employees. I wouldn't advise anyone to work there.

Pros

The integrity of the Aveda mission is pure and supported by most members of senior management completely. If you work at the headquarters, there are opportunities for wellness, including daycare, fitness facilities, learning activities, organic food etc.

Cons

Aveda has it's cut-throat executives like all corporations and there does not appear to be any reprecussions for cruelity to their staff. The pressure to do more with less resources is relentless. There has been an identity struggle for several years. Fashionistas (the devil does wear Prada) verses the Beauty/Wellness practitioners verses the Sales/Finance people (who want to deliver on the bottom line at all costs) verses the environmentalists who have traditionally been held in high regard. Our President believes that one vision does not preclude the others, but that message gets duluted as it trickles down through management levels. Middle managers will give their own interpretation of what is most important. Career advancement/resources has more to do with politics than performace.
