Pros

A creative team environment with great people and some brilliant minds, cutting-edge media technology, and fair compensation. Opportunities for innovation and specialization abound.

Cons

The organization has been in a transition phase for some time, causing confusion and inefficiency amongst its various components. Demanding hours can interfere with personal lives.

Pros

There are still many talented individuals at Avid who are passionate about the media industry and are committed to persevering through less than ideal operating conditions to keep the company's essence intact.

Cons

Avid's downward spiral began when the current crop of upper management came in and essentially decapitated the company by firing several layers of management from the top down and replacing them with far too many 'friends and relations', all of whom knew virtually nothing about the industry. Long time employees were constantly shocked by the level of naivete exhibited by the actions of our new leaders. Since that period, in what seems to be a 'by the book', generic MBA approach to running a company, individual contributors have been repeatedly thrown under the bus through layoffs, benefit cuts, poor execution decisions, and mixed messaging. Most importantly, it has become exceeding clear that there is a 'ceiling' in the chain of command past which any information that may contradict the world view of the top-most leaders will not pass through. For a team that talks about 'employee engagement' at regular intervals, they don't seem to be all that interested in fostering it.

Pros

The people, what are left of them at least. The technology, the gear discounts. The passion for the industry and love of product is...err...was pervasive.

Cons

Clueless executive staff are running the company into the ground. They could care less about the products, customers, or the employees. Their only goal is to keep cutting and offshoring until they can show a profit. Then problem is we are entering a death spiral, engineers are leaving in droves, which is causing more more engineers to start looking, which is causing testers and project managers to start looking. Yeah, executive staff will eventually show a profit, due to the fact that we'll still be able to sell products for a while and they won't be paying employees. Employees are the biggest hit to the balance sheet you know!
