Once a great company to work for........but now!!!!

Pros

The people that worked in Avid were a very passionate, experienced bunch of guys, that would always put the customer first, and work hard to find solutions to their customer's challenges. The working environment was relaxed, with a 'work hard, play hard' mentality. The products are great, but quality has suffered recently.

Cons

The moral has hit rock bottom, and the highlight of the day became swiping your pass to see if you still had a job (or not in my case!). Despite the new management claiming to be 'customer focused', the company has become totally inward facing, creating layer upon layer of bureaucracy that doesn't leave any time to engage with customers.

Pros

There are some really great people that work for Avid. At least out here on the West Coast there are. Some folks have been with the original companies for 10-15 years, and there's a very close-knit feeling in some respects. If you're a musician, you can get great deals. I guess video too. And that's about it for the pros anymore. There used to be many, many more.

Cons

A big one would be wondering every day if you're going to be a part of the inevitable next round of layoffs the management team is currently "not foreseeing." I've worked here for a while, and while I sometimes didn't like my job, I never felt scared for it every hour of every day. It feels as if there's NO security around here anymore. Constant offshoring seems to be detrimental to development.

Avid stuck between a rock and a hard place..

Pros

Avid has a casual working environment. People for most part are polite. Some folks have worked here for over 10 years. If you need to work from home sometimes, most managers would allow it.

Cons

Currently, Avid do not seems to have a culture that valued innovation or meritocacry. No brand name recognition. Felt more like an insular environment where folks are not sharing information or ideas; perhaps a reclusive stance adopted from layoffs that happened over last few years and recently. Can't see a career growth path at Avid( Hint: manager haven't even asked what you want to be...) Can see passion around sapping away awaiting unknown future.
