      Pros

      Over the years the company was a great place and a place where young engineers could learn. Work can be very interesting.

      Cons

      Over the last 3+ years they have laid off far too many of the most experienced and competent people. Now they plan to do more of the same in order to reduce rates. Our customers are losing confidence in us and our commitment to them. The experience and expertise of employees is no longer respected. Those who have been the most successful and therefore promoted now find their jobs at risk. Those who have not been promoted are safer.

      Pros

      - Easy to find a quiet corner and half ass your job and pull a steady paycheck till retirement - There is a wide variety of work to be had - Competitive wages

      Cons

      - Crappy benefits, especially health insurance - In a group that does short projects, management fails to plan properly and eventually they run out of luck and you have to find a new group - In a group that does long projects, management fails to plan for the needs of the products a year out, so you're always trying to do a year of work in a month of time.

      Pros

      I've really enjoyed working with the people at BAE Systems. Generally, I've found the engineers to be good caliber and great to work with! I had the opportunity to work various areas: research & development, technical projects, and several leadership roles.

      Cons

      My local middle management team of directors and VPs tends to be fairly clueless. They don't seem to invest any time in learning about their customers or markets. When you try to educate them, you are dismissed because they think they already know everything. They seem to be very tribal in operating their business units - if you aren't from there you aren't welcome. There also is much opportunity for mentoring. Virtually none of the senior folks will help you in your career. The only ones who would are of the recently retired generation and none of those left behind seem to find value in it.
