Pros

Excellent, first class benefits. Good base pay. Work-life flexibility. Career flexibility. Brilliant and smart colleagues. Very stable company overall. Ability to excel in technical arena without moving to management track. Diversity of personality types -- including introverts can succeed. Science is respected. Senior leadership comes from many different disciplines -- company is not just run by marketers or accountants.

Cons

Poor incentive compensation. Self-driven careers and career flexibility mean that people and often move into roles for which they are ill-prepared and get stuck there. Need to drive own career means that senior roles are often filled with people who are self-promoters. Employees are functional with high walls between functions -- people are not expected to be business people. Ex-pat assignments (delegations) are very restrictive and not very lucrative. Germans still dominate the company.

Clueless Management

Pros

Provide health, dental, and vision insurance along with short term disability. Large established company, and they pay me every other week on time.

Cons

Old equipment that managers refuse to allocate money to fix. Deceptive hiring processes (I was told I would be making one number, and 4 months in they changed the deal) are a mess and create a high degree of distrust towards management. Most recently, the company cuts out small benefits, such as providing food for production workers on Christmas day. Managers expect you to "work with them" when making sure the shifts get covered, but they won't allow me to trade my shift if it is puts someone else into overtime. Work-life balance is something management likes to mention, but they seem to have absolutely no understanding of what it actually is. Getting a transfer to a different position (even lateral movement) is difficult, and managers will hold people in their department for up to 18 months before approving the change. This is done to keep overtime costs down. Hiring is dreadfully slow and inefficient process, taking more than a year to replace retirees.

Pros

Great environment, salary at market average or above

Cons

Too much internal politics. Decision is always "shared too much"
