Very stable but somewhat inflexible

Pros

Clear strategy and willingness to stick to that strategy. Big, global player that still treats its employees like family ("Aniliner"). Salary and beneifts for permanent employees are good.

Cons

If you are not German or do not speak the language, communicating with corporate HQ in Germany can be challenging. Also, very hierarchical decision making processes which hinder success in markets where flexibility is required. Internal job market is frozen below Vice President level.

Great Company, great benefits

Pros

Good opportunity to advance if you work long hours. Competitive salary and benefits.

Cons

Lots of reorganization and downsizing. Businesses must make financial KPIs quickly and consistently or they will be restructured or sold off. Lots of job loss, lots of turnover. It is harder to keep a marginal business going sometimes than it is to make a profit in a growing one, but hard work in a declining business is not rewarded.

Pros

Lots of opportunities for development and growth in your career. You have a chance to move up the ladder or take lateral moves. You can choose to have a job with lots of depth of knowledge (subject matter expert) or you can take a path to broader skill set with experts on your team. If you want to work abroad or move around within the US, that is all possible as well. Pretty much there is a fit for just about anyone. Salary and benefits are top notch. If you want to go back to school, that's a benefit. If you need a flexible schedule to work from home, it's possible. Plus there are perks like discounts with appliance and car manufacturers.

Cons

If you want to move up, you need to be mobile. This is true for most global companies, but especially true of BASF. It is a very large company so with that comes bureaucracy. Work loads can be difficult to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
