Average bank

Pros

BB&T still matches 6% on the 401k and employees are still eligible for a pension. As long as you are close to hitting your goals your superiors will leave you alone. They have decent training for lenders on how credit works. Still one of the last big banks to give lenders loan authority.

Cons

Way behind the curve in technology which is very frustrating. Communication between leadership and the branches is nonexistent. The leadership has closed ears and do not listen to anyone that questions the why or how things are done. Everyone is made to give the same canned speech to clients and prospects...its embarrassing and clients will call you out on it. BB&T is so slow on communication and technology that you won't be able to see how you are doing in your yearly goals until June or July...that's pathetic. And your goals will change without warning.

Pros

Most people that work at BB&T are very friendly and down to earth. A select few who completely subordinate personal interest to the bank have good career opportunities. You are guaranteed to be "promoted" if you stay long enough, regardless of work quality. BB&T offers very competitive benefits. Pay is mediocre.

Cons

BB&T is incredibly inefficient. Wasteful spending abounds and spending in critical areas is anaemic. BB&T's compensation is not competitive. The entire bank is built with inefficient systems and an insider could see that the bank is built like a house of cards. Products are not competitive with competitors.

Pros

Excellent Benefits! One of the few companies who still give you a pension after 5 years of loyal service. No 90 day probation before health care, dental, etc. Job stability: If you are in a sales related role (which 90% of jobs are) you are pretty much safe as long as you do your job.

Cons

Everything is a secret. Nobody can give straight answers on when new employees will be hired, how long a situation will last, or what is being done to fix it. Very slim on staff. They will work you to the bone...with NO overtime. Instead of one day off a week when working 6 days a week, you might come in at 9 and leave at 11...complete waste of time!
