Pros

BGC employs some great people, and there is a true camaraderie that makes it an enjoyable work atmosphere. The firm has solid branding, and a good name in most (but not all) of the markets it serves. The annual charity day to honor the victims of 9-11 is something to be proud of, and energizes the entire company.

Cons

Watch your back. Management will protect the "good old-boy" to a fault, and very adept at screwing people over on pay-outs, account coverage, etc. The big push to convert everybody over to the new partnership structure is a scam....and you forfeit all your money when you leave. And that was SUPPOSED to drive the stock price up? And the more you make, the more your benefits cost....outrageous percentage covered by the employee.

Pros

-The water street office was great, trading floor is busy and entertaining, $5 a day pay deduction for breakfast and lunch, food is great, no dress code on water st, people there were friendly to me, great hours - the name cantor fitzgerald (no one says they work ar BGC) made me feel proud to work there because of their history. The name on my resume helped in my subsequent job hunt -had good product exposure across multiple desks, once again, that was helpful in my job hunt

Cons

-midtown office is a morgue, depressing people, depressing environment, cafeteria is highway robbery, working in both offices, it is pretty messed up to see how nicely they treat the moneymakers and how poorly they treat the support staff, without support there is no business -so micromanaged its insane, i literally had to report when i was leaving my desk to use the bathroom, they are so concerned with liability, covering their groups butt, and passing the buck to others within the firm, every email has to be sent reply all, so someone can see how badly you messed up and rip you for it.same thing with pointless salesforce. -the technology group is very defunct for a technology company. They gave us the worst equipment, and had only certain people know certain things for job security. Instead of sharing knowledge so that the group can work together, they split functions up and let everyone sit at their desk by themselves to think about how miserable it is there. -no creativity, do things as they demand, no say in process improvement (because they cant), no meetings for transparency or planning ever, when a client asks for a function they are basically screwed, and we would tell them that or make up a cookie cutter response management wanted us to say -i took the job so that it would turn into something, but i saw early on that wasnt going to be the case nor did i want it to - do not regret being there, but at the same time, it could have been a lot more enjoyable, making me want to stay if my role could have turned into something more
