Pros

Work from home flexibility. Good opportunities for ongoing training and education made it easy to find a new job outside BJC.

Cons

It's very common in IT for a 7-person team to have 2 people covering most of the work for the team. I was one of the people doing most of the work for my team. Rather than fixing these problems, management laid off the entire department and replaced us with an outsource company from India. I received exemplary reviews for the better part of 2 decades, and was just tossed aside like I was worthless. I was asked to train people to do my job who didn't understand the most basic concepts of the most essential technologies, and thus couldn't begin to replace me. Experience working with the outsource company shows that the only considerations were money; knowledge and ability to do the job has no place here. Fortunately, I found out in the process that I was paid so little at BJC that I had no problem finding a much higher paying job almost instantly.

Pros

Field Clinicians are like family members. The best and most professional clinicians I had the honor of working with.

Cons

Supervisors unreachable and unqualified to make nursing decisions since none of them are Nurses. Management has a "tin ear" and refuses to acknowledge its own shortcomings while blaming field clinicians for any and everything that goes wrong. Policy initiatives are made on the fly with no forewarnings to staff. Training on EMR system is far inadequate. Pay sucks and is not competitive with other large hospital backed HomeCare services. Culture is toxic and hostility is felt anytime a clinician enters offices. Reprisals are normal. Backstabbing is their normal code of conduct. ICARE mandate apparently does not apply to supervisors or upper level management in how they interact with subordinates. Supervisors unnecessarily send RN's, PT's, OT's and others into very dangerous locations in the middle of the night when risks of dying by gunshot are high.
