Pros

Convenient cafeterias (with 30 percent discount), on-site bank, great co-workers, vision/ dental/ health insurance offered for decent cost. Same-gender partners are eligible for benefits. It's a nice community, if you're there long enough the place will become your second home and everybody in it, your second set of family. Benefits about par, nothing too exciting except for the fact that your ETO (time off) will carry over for as long as you stay there until it reaches its maximum (something like 600+ hours), then it no longer accumulates. You can sell your ETO if you need extra cash. Free covered garage, free shuttle service from garages to buildings.

Cons

Some managers are terribly micromanaging, no trust given to employees, salaried staff works overtime without pay, POOR career growth because they'd rather hire people from outside than train/ develop the ones they already have. Underappreciated, too much politics to get the simplest thing done. Paycheck is under market rate especially if you have been there a long time, adjustments are not being made. Dare you ask, you'll probably get yourself in trouble. Environment is "stiff" and too old-fashioned. We are workers, not robots. Current Manager is so controlling that we feel bad to use the restroom, talking or taking lunch breaks, basically no freedom. Watch out which department you end up in. I'm sure there are good departments at Barnes, but the one I'm in totally sucks. So, good luck!

Pros

Having met people from various departments within the organization, I can say that Barnes-Jewish Hospital does an amazing job taking care of its patients and employees. There are a lot of very dedicated and passionate patient care staff working there. There are some nice programs that reward and recognize employees. There's a lot of effort put into communicating and reaching out to employees. As part of the BJC HealthCare system, its benefits are solid and it's a stable employer.

Cons

A lot of people in my department have been in the same position for many years, so it's difficult for junior staff to get a promotion, unless someone has vacated a position. Decision-making can be bureaucratic at times. Limited annual pay increase.
