Pros

- Leadership (especially in Performance and Availability R&D) is best of class. - Progressive technical talent specializing in SaaS and PaaS has been acquired. - BMC as a business is well run and efficient, and compares far better in this regard than other companies of a similar size.

Cons

- IT Security policy is antiquated, driven by customer policy, and inhibits remote work, especially for modern DevOps workflows that support R&D. - Tech culture for some groups is in need of an overhaul (don't let this deter you, WE NEED YOU, to help us change!) - BMC legal's position on IP and OpenSource is antiquated and severely inhibits the culture and marketing opportunities the movement presents (We are trying to change this, WE NEED YOUR HELP!)

Culture is very proactive and supportive for anyone who wants to improve products or processes. You can talk to anyone at the company without going through channels, if that's the most effective way to accomplish improvements. But if you don't go through channels, you need to be able to show business value - not just with a business case, but with metrics and data that support your idea. Creative, proactive, energetic people with great ideas thrive at BMC.

Cons

Company expects you to work a lot of overtime and to sacrifice personal time, including around holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas are always times for big releases, so you have to be willing to take as little time as possible. Very little is offered in N. America for corporate or major release celebrations. Much more care is taken to accommodate Israel and India holidays, and much more is provided for celebrations in those locations. Layoffs have happened every 6 months for the past 15+ years.

Great pay and benefits. Lots of fun parties and conferences. Great people if you are lucky enough to find them.

Cons

Horrible transparency from management, lots of frivolous waste of money like the parties and conferences. They should use that money to actually make improvements to products
