Pros

NONE - What pros they had were demolished by a sweeping change to benefits.

Cons

Horrible upper to mid-level management, NYC-centric focus to the exclusion of talent in other locations, and toxic culture. They bled talent to their rivals and now are trying to replace those losses.

Pros

1. flexibility with most departments allowing work from home on a regular basis 2. Generous vacation time, 3. Pays 100% for short-term disability for up to 20 weeks depending on tenure 4. 401-K company match, profit sharing.

Cons

1. Salaries are well below market rate 2. Company doesn't do a great job at retaining its most talented people. 3. Long-term career opportunities are limited. 4. Technology is awful- it is impossible to get through the corporate red-tape.

Pros

Overall, I think it is a good company. Be careful what team you end up on.

Cons

Lots of people who use the 'not my job' excuse. Too much bureaucracy. People spend twice the effort in telling you to go away, to fill out this form and that form, or to tell you your submission is wrong (with no reference to what is wrong about it) than if they would work as a team. Everyone pretends to be 'so busy' when in reality, if they worked as a team they would have twice the time and half the work. Lots of undercutting and favorite playing by management. Be prepared to not get any training on the business aspect of what you are doing. Too many meetings, be prepared for a life of meetings for the sake of meetings. The sole responsibility of half of the employees if literally just attending meetings to 'know' what is going on, in order to tell other people what is going on, so they can tell others what is going on, so they can have a meeting about what is going on. I wish that was hyperbole. Also, if you are a developer, you will attend the same meetings as your manager, and then you will also be expected to do actual work while they go home. You can spend 6 hours in meetings, and then are expected to get 6 hours of coding done per day. Upper management (directors, senior directors, senior VPs) are invisible. They are all having the same meeting circlejerk with each other, while being completely oblivious to what goes on beneath them. There is on average about 1 manager for every 1-2 developers. Also, almost nobody gets promoted. Be prepared to be in the same position as when you came to the company 10 years from now(if you stay that long). Everyone above me is from somewhere else. And once they got here they never got promoted. You 'get' to work from home. But that is only to get you to work from home at all hours. Work life balance is pretty bad. A lot of people here identify solely with their job and have made it their lives, and expect the same from you. Work from 7am-5pm, go home and sign in, to 'stay in touch' until you go to bed. They insist on you using your personal phone for work emails, so they they can get a hold of you at any moment. And if you don't answer an email, be prepared to explain why.
