Pros

Good benefits, good working conditions in a modern office. The company is changing for the better with clear direction from the CEO.

Cons

Some problems with old, has been, top management selecting their equally old favourites on the basis of a sob story, these employees are often incompetent and/or lazy but get rewarded with high salaries whilst the rest of the team pick up the work. ('old boy network' springs to mind, they look after each other whilst missing competent highly motivated employees) Huge salary discrepancies for the same role.

Pros

Lack of shareholders means the business can make sensible medium and long term decisions rather than damaging short term ones to satisfy investors wanting immediate dividends. Positive and collaborative colleagues Lots of positive changes happening, both management and employee driven, large and small scale

Cons

Some residual pockets of old fashioned, less customer-centric, behaviour - although this is changing. London office location is a bit out of the way and has no kitchens

Mixed Feelings!

Pros

Great benefits Lots of vacation time Excellent work/life balance Very, very nice coworkers Great holiday parties Beautiful, comfortable office Office is closed between Christmas and the New Year so you get a nice long holiday break with little to no vacation time used. You won’t find that anywhere else.

Cons

Pretty much EVERYTHING about the work itself is a con. It is like pulling teeth to get anything done because of the mountains of paperwork and time-wasting processes that are required. Communication within the company and with customers is a disaster, as is customer service in general. Management is nice, but completely clueless, and have absolutely zero idea of what their employees and customers are going through on a daily basis. The company as a whole is extremely disorganized and unstructured. Important tasks are constantly falling through the cracks due to undefined/nonexistent processes and everyone thinking “it isn’t their job.” Salary is laughably low for the excessive amount of work required. Please note that these comments do not apply to the Healthcare team; they are far, far more organized and functional than the rest of BSI. I would only recommend BSI as a brief stopping point on your way to something better (which is what most people do—come and stay at BSI for a year or two, and then leave for bigger and better things). If you are looking for a rewarding, growth-oriented career with a company that has its act together BSI is not the place for you.
