Great place to work...for a little while

Pros

Most of the employees are great to work with, which makes for a fun environment. There are a lot of small perks as well.

Cons

Both project and studio management leaves a lot to be desired. Far too much time is spent on every project. There is a lot of in-fighting, and it seems to be because there are so many strong opinions in the studio, but no one person has the final say on the direction of something (be it a new game or a new feature in an existing one). That can make it hard to get things done. Small perks don't pay bills, and compensation could be much better.

Ok place to be at with no career growth

Pros

The people I work with on a daily basis. Free drinks and occasionally catered lunch or dinner. Good insurance benefits and excellent 401k benefits.

Cons

Poor project planning from feature scope to artistic pipelines. No growth for career path. Art management disconnected. Standards are very low when developing new games. Too manny hands in one basket it seems! Which creates no sense of direction when games are almost done. A lot of back peddling.

Better than a lot of places I've heard of..

Pros

Most of the people on the ground level are passionate, intelligent, and talented. They want to make good games that they want to play and they're very invested in the success of every game that passes through their hands. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. Backflip generally takes good care of their employees, and does a decent job of letting company culture grow organically.

Cons

Hasbro recently stepped in to take a larger role in making decisions at the company. It's hard to tell what that will mean for the future of the company. As Backflip grew, it became more cumbersome and less flexible. Time and effort were poured into failing games instead of cutting losses and pivoting towards more successful options. People on the ground level often felt that their voices and ideas were ignored by upper management who had less experience in the gaming marketplace. Too many opportunities were missed.
