Thanks for your feedback. The smart and driven people of Backstop are definitely part of the reasons why it’s a great place to work and learn. It’s encouraging to hear you’re finding benefit from the hard work we’ve put into our training, management approach and cultural development over the recent past. We’ll continue to strive to build on these going forward as we believe they’re critical to employee success and thus company success. I also appreciate you sharing your thoughts on staff turnover and compensation. We have seen a strong decline in sales staff turnover in the past year but always want to find ways to become better. We’re continuing to evaluate our compensation plans and structures and hope you’ll be willing to share your ideas with your manager so that we can incorporate your thoughts into our ongoing efforts.

Unethical policies

Pros

The snacks, beer and people are easily some great reasons to work at Backstop but they're outweighed by the cons for many people.

Cons

No upward momentum. The HR policy is (seriously) to NOT give people a raise when they're promoted until they've been doing that job for 6 months. It gives no incentive to do well and get promoted. If you want a promotion(and wish to be actually paid for what you're doing), you have to leave the company. They said that "this is for the employee to see if they like the job" but nowhere else that I've worked does this. It's a terrible policy. Hired from the outside? Great, they'll pay you what you deserve. Promoted from within? Too bad. No raise for 6 months. No incentive to do better work.

Pros

Jeremie and Andy were still running the company back then and it was a lot of fun, very innovative with an employee and client-centric cultture. Pay and benefits were good. Commission structure wasn't very lucrative given the price point of the platform and usual adoption rate.

Cons

The company was very fun, but a little scattered in terms of vision of the future. It was very focused on building bells and whistles engineers wanted to create, rather than focusing on fixing basic bugs and functionality the clients wanted.
