Pros

Compensation is competitive, benefits are excellent, especially healthcare and 401k defined contribution by the company. Badger Meter always had a culture of excellent work life balance and flexibility for its employees, new upper management is committed to maintaining that culture while revamping continuous improvement initiatives. They have hired some great people that are actively trying to strike a balance between continuous improvement and accountability, and a flexible work environment. So far, their initiatives have been prudent and are making an already great place to work even better. I enjoy working with my team and am happy I have both the latitude and independence to have my opinions and ideas matter, as well as support from my manager when it comes to implementing change in processes. Generally people are friendly and are willing to help. New goal setting process was much needed. In the past there was a gap in communication between upper management, middle management and employees.

Cons

Still some large challenges ahead in terms of creating streamlined processes across all facilities, a natural problem in a growing company that has grown through acquisitions. Some of the systems are archaic and inefficient. Different segments of the company use different systems which make certain processes more time consuming than if industry standard ERP software was used.

Pros

Work/life balance was good. Nice flexibility for appointments, vacation and illness. Benefits were decent. Company is doing well.

Cons

The ability to move up in the company was dependent on how well you sucked up or who you were friends with. Most management I dealt with acted like they knew everything and did not trust those hired in their specified roles to know what they are talking about. It was there way or no way. Company needs to dedicate more resources to internal improvement vs. just growth, as the internal investments will eventually lead to growth. Change was slow to happen.

If you are young or a female RUN AWAY

Pros

There are a small handful of people that are decent but they are hard to find as they typically keep their heads down.

Cons

This company is stuck in the 1940's from the furniture to their mentality about their staff to their compensation. They talk about being a progressive company that is open to change but they are anything but. They don't like new ideas or new ways of doing things and if you don't follow exactly what your manager wants to the letter you are going to have trouble. If you discuss something in your interview make it crystal clear in writing that they will still support it after you accept the offer. They don't take discrimination seriously...after it was reported, with supporting evidence, I was told that my manager "just needed time to figure out how to deal with a person like me" and "that I need to give him time to get used to having direct reports like me", which meant female and under the age of 50. After I gave my notice, I was informed by several other females that the same thing has happened to them but they've been too afraid of losing their jobs or not getting raises to report it because they knew nothing would be done. The prior CEO was even made aware of the situation and simply passed it on to HR without any sort of follow through to make sure it was being dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner.
