Pros

The company is employee owned, but really only owned by a few very senior managers. Work life balance is good relative to NYC-based banks. There is a lot of good hands on training but it really depends on which analyst you end up working for since the training process is not really formalized.

Cons

Midwestern firm so it can feel like we were out of the loop relative to our NYC-centric clients and with most of our analyst meetings etc taking place in New York or Boston.

Pros

Personal growth is high at this firm. The small team atmosphere fosters a great training environment and ample opportunity to take on greater responsibility with more experience. Junior people on the team have an opportunity to interact with clients, which isn't typical of sell-side roles at other firms.

Cons

Promotions happen slowly due to the flat organizational structure. The key is to remain challenged and excited about doing a variety of responsibilities for the team and not to focus so heavily on what title you have.
