Pros

Professional Atmosphere. Comprehensive Benefits Package. Most staff members truly believe in the product and want the college to be successful.

Cons

High turnover A praise up, blame down mentality A "But we've always done it this way" mind set. A "Willingness to adapt and change" seems like a catchy slogan rather than an embraced philosophy

Baker No Longer Good Place to Work

Pros

Lots of pros if you are friend or family member of CEO, CAO or other persons in positions of power. Everyone else at all levels are left to flounder with extremely low pay and inequality.

Cons

Baker College used to be a good place to work. However, growth has stopped, but inflated salaries and egos of higher positions continue to go up. Just prior to the holidays, 13 full-time, long-term, mid-level employees were terminated and their jobs consolidated with other positions. The entire system of employees were notified by way of 13 emails, worded in a classless manner; no real explanation was given. Upper management reminds me of children playing at business, and seem to think they no longer need to follow policy, procedure, or employment laws. Baker does not compensate employees well, and think nothing of offering a professional with 15-20 years experience, and graduate degree a salary of $35,000 annually, while management is earning inflated annual salaries and bonuses. Annual bonuses are dangled in front of employees, and each year we receive threats that that small, added compensation will be yanked away. Used to have great medical, dental and vision insurance, but insurance has now been changed to a terrible policy that no doctors want to accept. Many, many employees lost long-term physicians when the insurance switch took place. Employees should have been given a choice to pay the difference between the old insurance and the new insurance if we wanted to keep prior plan. Management admits that we will continue to be expected to do more, but we will not be compensated for the additional work. Many employees are leaving the organization (great employees), because the college is no longer a good, or even tolerable place to work. Shame of you Baker College for alienating your number-one asset. Quit taking advantage of your wonderful employees, and get back to the values you once held dear.
