Favoritism and not following their own guidelines for compensation and promotions. Performance reviews do not follow any guidelines and seem to be based on whatever the mentor/manager personally thinks of the staff. Grant Fraud - Firm applies for (and sometimes received) provincial training grants but charged CPA student the full amount when they quit. They pay low, get grants, and then charge students 100%. This seemed to be from a lack of documentation and consistency from HR... not a good look for accounting and audit business. There is no effort to progress and a theme of "I had to go through this, so do you" from the partners. Feedback largely falls on deaf ears. Peripheral activities like HR, payroll are not adequate and are often corrected by accounting staff. Exhausting CPA/work/living in the most expensive city in the country without much support or understanding.
