Pros

If you have a good administrator who supports teachers and students and is not afraid to stand up to the politics and ridiculous demands of the higher-ups, work enviroment is good.

Cons

Ridiculous amount of extra paperwork, data collection that is never used, and policies that change with the season make teaching difficult.

Pros

The staff at some of the schools is great.

Cons

The professional development isn't nearly as good as other state counties I have worked for, and the politics are intense and unforgiving. If you get into a school with poor upper management that wants you out, good luck. The powers that be at headquarters will go along with it regardless of your actual skills, work ethic, student test scores, or any positive impact you are having on your students. I have seen good teachers casually dismissed from this county simply because they asked important questions in an earnest attempt to improve the school and the administration didn't want to answer them and decided to go after them. If you are going to work here, proceed with extreme caution before saying anything that might "rock the boat" even a little to anyone in a position of power.

Pros

A Substitute has freedom to work as much or as little as they desire. You can choose which schools or teachers you work for. I can also choose grades and subject matter that I teach. Having a degree will increase the pay. Gives me the freedom to continue school and work at the same time without overload.

Cons

Not everyone is always welcoming and helpful at certain schools.
