Pros

The benefits package (for administrative/supervisory employees) is well above-average. Vacation for clerical employees is notably less, but with the same medical/health/insurance benefits. Although most competent staff work longer hours, the required hours are few.

Cons

For every hard-working staff member, there is an incompetent one to 'balance out' their efforts. The 'good old boy network,' as at other large organizations, dictates who gets the best positions - competence and ability are seemingly opposing factors. Incompetent staff are nearly impossible to fire, requiring multi-year efforts to document a case while the offending staff continue to wreak havoc. (In one case, an embezzler was demoted - but given a full year under her old salary as time to adjust.) If you can align yourselves with hard-working staff (and even have that luxury - some groups do not), you may be able to insulate yourself from the incompetence around you. However, low tolerance for internal politics or useless staff remaining on the payroll - seemingly paid to drink coffee, chat on their phones all day, and tinker with personal projects - will quickly frustrate you.

Pros

Please don't waste your time

Cons

You won't be told until after you're hired that you have no choice but to pay 7% for the retirement plan off the top. Unless you are 55 and older

Pros

Absolutely none. Even the health care isn't very good.

Cons

The union is more talk than action. Promised raises and took them back. This county is very reactive and not proactive.
