This hospital counts on the fact that you're going to have a moral obligation to work in the pet medicine field, because of that they get away with paying people very poorly. I make 13/hr VA's make about 14-16/hr I also work 13 hr long days, which is heinous as I am only a receptionist. In my experience, my bosses all had a pretty intense superiority complex, because of that coupled with the intensity of the job itself I was often spoken to like filth. My boss was usually too stressed out to ever give my position any attention, because of that I could be doing something wrong for about 3 months before I was corrected and they were not very nice about it. To top it all off, the only reason I became a CSC is because I thought it would be the best route towards becoming a VA. They are aware that I have a problem with my pay rate but still told me that "training in to be a VA should be considered a lateral move, not a promotion, and that it doesn't come with a pay increase." How could they possibly expect me to want to keep my job if they tell me flat out that learning new positions doesn't come with a pay increase. On top of this, you're expected to stay at the front desk for your entire 13 hr shift and you end up making/taking about 200 phone calls by the end of the day. A lot of which are going to be dealing with people who are emotionally distraught which is incredibly taxing on your emotional health.
One funny little kicker as well is that there's a deal with the CEO's instagram where if you follow him you can publicly ask him questions about the company. Then your newsfeed becomes full of things that Brians doing like yachting and being court side at NBA games. All things that I will NEVER AFFORD WHILE I'M WORKING FOR YOU.
Long story short this job is NOT WORTH IT. The allure of getting to work with peoples furry friends wore off really fast. AND I don't have time to take care of my own pets because of how long the hours are. When the clients are angry they're horrible and you HAVE to put up with it. The management is condescending. The hours suck. The pay is bad. They wont pay you more if you get a promotion. I'm leaving.
