Micromanagement by Field Directors Metrics based on many factors you cannot control like DVM retention. (Has more to do with the standards the company sets like pets per day per DVM, low labor numbers to care for pets, and high turnover of associates) Targets that unreasonably set beyond your control but you are accountable to uphold them

Never work for this employer, profit over pet care always

Pros

I can think of none. They talk a good game and make lots of promises when you're hired, but most of it won't come to fruition, The onboard mentoring is a big sales pitch, but in reality, that gets thrown to the wind if a hospital is busy. The pay may be a little better than private practices but it comes with a major cost and that is the cost to your health and stress level. At the end of the day this is a corporation in its purest sense and the only thing that matters is $$$/profit.

Cons

Constant understaffing, DVMs being undermined by management who only cares about the financial bottom line, frequently missing lunch due to poor scheduling, frequently getting out late due to poor scheduling, often out of needed supplies at the hospital, inadequately trained staff, understaffing, focus on pet numbers over quality vet care. There is a reason that banfield is always placing ads for doctors and has to pay large signing bonuses and that is because doctors are always leaving because it is such a miserable place to work. Why are there so many doctor openings because there is massive doctor turnover. It is very unusual to walk into a Banfield hospital and find a career Banfield doctor. Most will have been there 5 years or less. There is a reason for that.

Field Managers Not Always Ethical

They have a strong focus on preventive medicine and client education. Vision to practice quality medicine is amazing and great PTO and benefits.

Cons

Their management selection isn't the best. Management isn't always ethical in decision making, following company standards and supporting staff development. Patient care is often times sacrificed to focus on profit.
