Pros

Large Organization means you wont be fired without warning or reason (except w/ layoffs) and you get paid on time.

Cons

Everything else. 13.5 hour shifts, NO lunch (NO, I'm not kidding). If there are patients in the lobby you are expected to NOT take a break. You cannot leave for lunch or for ANY reason- including to get new eyeglasses or if you need a tampon. Again, no, I'm not kidding. You are expected to see the maximum number of patients, defer charting and then chart from home FOR FREE. Holiday pay is a sad 1.25x base. NO overtime if you work over 40 hours a week (which is amazing that it is even legal) "Customer Obsessed" translates to terrible care and entitled patients. Awful culture of (rightfully) disgruntled employees. Senior management sends out some of the most condescending emails I've ever seen. You are expected to NEVER call out. Providers come to work actively vomiting, febrile etc.

Pros

We were able to purchase good health insurance.

Cons

They sold the AZ and CO Urgent Cares to two AZ Banner doctors who terminated all Banner Urgent Care Employees. It affected hundreds of people. We all had our work families broken apart. A very sad deal. The are staffing with all new employees as no one who was terminated wanted to work for them. They also decided that their business model would not include any Registered Nurses, but have just a medical assistant to take care of patients. This is a liability in the making. We provided such a great service to the community. It is such a loss for us and the community.

Not a Great Place for IT

Pros

For some teams, you get the ability to work remotely full-time with the exception of a rare in-person meeting here or there. This caveat is that you need to stay in-office for the first couple of months, and you need to live in a state where Banner has a corporate office (AZ, CA, CO, etc) Many of the people here are friendly You get a pretty decent allotment of paid time off

Cons

Full teams of developers and business support teams were laid off recently to make room for outsourcing with a company named Sogeti, so finding a development position here may be difficult. Upper management makes sweeping changes to the organization frequently. The pay scale is lower than average for a Software Engineer. The system is plagued with miles of red tape, so getting anything done outside of your team (particularly when it involves multiple departments) can be very slow and difficult. HR works extremely slowly, so even when you are promised to get a promotion, it may not happen anytime soon (or at all). The company is near-constantly in a hiring / promotion freeze, meaning it becomes very difficult to move up in the company. The benefits are less-than-stellar, especially given that this is a health care company. Meetings can be dense, and, although you are officially discouraged from working over 40 hours a week, many of the employees here are only able to get work done by doing so.
