Pros

There are Banners in numerous places, lots of different jobs to choose from. Most of the people I work are dedicated and hard working.

Cons

No pay raise for the last two years, those of us with evaluations due in the first month of this year did receive a 2% increase that lasted for 2 weeks or so before it was rescinded. There seems to be enough money to build new buildings, buy up other hospitals, and provide some top administration people with multimillion dollar bonuses. We were also assured that in one of the Many surveys that we've been subjected to, that they heard us loud and clear when we said that we wished to be judged as individuals, not just lumped together for possible bonuses if universal patient satisfaction goals (that administers created) were met. In order to make us happy, they have now laid those bonuses to rest. So, now we are at: no raise And, no bonus. I'm sure the next survey will represent how much happier we are now that we've "been heard". The general, overall feel of my department and the company is: Be glad that you have a job and shut up! I suspect that the suspension of bonuses and pay raises (for staff), may be in part to roil up the mighty workforce and hope that they will put pressure on politicians to create a more favorable environment for hospitals. It's not that I don't support that goal, I just don't appreciate the way I think it's being played out. People are leaving my department in droves, managers are pulled up from the ranks and given very little training in people skills. Without enough guidance and resources, these managers do the best that they can with whatever wisdom they've gathered in their lifetime. But all in all, there's not a lot of kindness or graciousness to soften the Very hard edges that we work amongst. If you are looking for a job and don't wish to be micromanaged, underpaid, treated punitively and worked to the bone, I'd say keep looking.

Pros

System is doing well with revenue growth and maximizing net income. Very good investment is made in to the purchase of new and replacement assets. The system's vision for growth is ambitious.

Cons

Top to bottom communication lacks clarity and granular reasoning for decisions which affect employees, hourly staffing in particular. No raises in the past two years despite profitable operations does not make sense to many employees. Patient to nurse ratios is undefined and can be as high as 7:1.

Cons

Micro managed. Demanding more from employees. Cannot get promoted unless you know someone or are related. Never stands up for employee, we are usually wrong.
