Pros

The people I work with and direct patient care.

Cons

ACUITY, increasing our workload, and still wanting quality care at the highest level, these two things can not go hand in hand.

Pros

Pay is OK compared to what is offered on the outside. Longer term of employ encourages one to stay

Cons

Management is poor, they are inexperienced for the most part. A good clinical employee does not always make a good manager. If you get your U/Phoenix Masters or your GCU Master's it does not qualify you to manage people positively or appropriately. New management has little to no people experience and it shows. Benefits are poor. Expensive for working in a hospital system and very limited when it comes to providers. Many providers really need a review, they are incompetent and not up to current educational or care standards. Opportunity for advancement in non-clinical capacity is poor as well. No raises for years. Tuition reimbursement has been cut. No developmental opportunities even within the organization, few classes or any skill enhancement opportunities unless it's for nursing, and I don't know that there are even enough of those. Employees are allowed to settle in and despite failure of performance, preference is given to longevity. If you are here 20+ years, you can die here if that is your wish. Ineffective performers are not removed, and sometimes rewarded to get them out of the current situation when everyone becomes aware they are problematic.

Pros

flexible schedule, the ability to work with some very smart and talented people the ability to gain good work experience. the ability to understand technically how the different functions of a healthcare company must work together, and common areas where they fail (you merely need to look around, there are no diagrams of how the 5+ inpatient/outpatient EMR systems interact with one another)

Cons

the organization at the corporate level is extremely silo-driven. FTEs at the Sr Consult level in the org are hired to do a task, some making extremely large salaries who do less work than a coord employee. This is an organization where you are expected to make your boss look good at all costs, it is all about who you know, and where insecurity and micromanagement reign king. The organization's dysfunction will continue to eat away at it as it now has 5+ EMR systems and no clear direction for how to meet Accountable care organization measures because of a lack of clear vision from the leadership. Leaders trip over one another because the organization is so top heavy.
