Pros

The stated culture and values sound terrific......to bad they are just word-speak and mean nothing.

Cons

Upper management at Banner are scary people. They dump tons of responsibility on mid-managers and staff, won't listen to anything mid-management has to say, actually they don't even ask, they just play the blame game when things don't go as THEY planned. Stating facts, such as, "We don't have enough equipment to support that initiative", is considered "negative input" and is not tolerated. They only want to hear, "yes", even if "no" is the only sane honest response. Other cons: Salaried and 10-14 hour days were the norm, on-call every other week end from 7a Sat. until 7a Mon. (no monetary compensation or comp time) AND had to go in every other Sunday for a few hours to do tome cards! I didn't just quit....I escaped!!!

Pros

Patient-care staff are hardworking, skilled, caring and concerned about the patients and fellow workers

Cons

Too many layers of management and very poor Senior Management and Corporate Management. This has been expressed by employees in multiple Employee Surveys and these poor scores are disregarded. Corporate Management even came to one of the facilities who had a lot of complaints about senior management and listened to the organized and objective comments. Management left the facility stating things would change, they haven't and it's been almost a year. Multiple employees resigned following this heartbreaking NULL response. Too many managers with alphabet soup behind their names with most of these degrees obtained from Online courses like Univiersity of Phoenix. Unfortunately these degrees do not provide the necessary people skills, like being able to speak to people, understand people or just have a kind heart. Human Resources are not employee advocates they just protect the corporation and this philosphy should be changed. Look at their turn over rates, and they don't seem to comprehend how much it costs to retrain and hire new employees. There are multiple employee law suits against Banner, because of inappropriate termination and equality issues. Experienced patient care givers should be hired and manangement should listen to them. Senior Management thinks they can hire nurses just out of school and hope to gain their devotion...doesn't work especially after leaving them on nights by themselves and hoping nothing happens. The corporation has employees who are called Service Excellance who provide no helpful service for the staff or patients, why not remove this department and hire more actual patient care givers.

Pros

Pay is OK compared to what is offered on the outside. Longer term of employ encourages one to stay

Cons

Management is poor, they are inexperienced for the most part. A good clinical employee does not always make a good manager. If you get your U/Phoenix Masters or your GCU Master's it does not qualify you to manage people positively or appropriately. New management has little to no people experience and it shows. Benefits are poor. Expensive for working in a hospital system and very limited when it comes to providers. Many providers really need a review, they are incompetent and not up to current educational or care standards. Opportunity for advancement in non-clinical capacity is poor as well. No raises for years. Tuition reimbursement has been cut. No developmental opportunities even within the organization, few classes or any skill enhancement opportunities unless it's for nursing, and I don't know that there are even enough of those. Employees are allowed to settle in and despite failure of performance, preference is given to longevity. If you are here 20+ years, you can die here if that is your wish. Ineffective performers are not removed, and sometimes rewarded to get them out of the current situation when everyone becomes aware they are problematic.
