Pros

Three generation family business with a great culture and set of values. President of the company makes it a point to personally know every employees name and makes an effort to be available for his staff. Fantastic benefits programs, such as extended health and dental, retirement plans, wellness programs. Lots of fun sales competitions to incentivize selling. Very solid and quick distribution chains and supplier relationships makes doing B2B sales easy.

Cons

Too many managers. It can get confusing remembering who to go to depending on the topic. No HR is a big concern, especially when the company can sometimes feel very much like an “old boys club.” Sexual harassment isn’t uncommon. Not much consideration was given to the safety of operations employees at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with salespeople expecting operations to drop off paper marketing material to their customers. This may have just been at my branch though. Next to no investment in IT. They’d roll out some fancy employee database/company social network every year or so but the horrifically slow e-commerce site that both customers and staff relied on was never upgraded and it was a project always put on the back burner despite being promised repeatedly. It made establishing a larger self-sufficient online customer presence difficult, despite the exec team continually encouraging salespeople to move more customers online and increase number of customers. Too small of an IT team for a 500+ employee, multinational company. Unless your position allows for commission, you’re probably going to earn below industry standard wages.

Pros

- Room to move around, cross-train - Good commission base for support roles

Cons

- Management isn't great, a lot of favouritism in place. - Sales people get away with almost murder, but Operations gets dumped on. - No one in HQ cares about their (only) international branch, very much treated as the ugly duckling, and for their 20+ years in Canada, only finally started supporting us in 2023. - There is no HR support for Canada, only one human in the USA. - If you have a genuine issue with your general manager, just bring in WCB because HQ will ignore you, even if it's aggressively bad. - Was told by ownership that we "can't move too fast" after letting go the GM. - No training programs, had to be word of mouth and trial by fire. - Some male coworkers have been touchy-feely, personal boundaries are a theory.
