Great Place to Make A Difference

Pros

Because Basecamp is so small, it is much easier to really contribute and make a difference. I found this to be extremely rewarding in my time at Basecamp. I had autonomy in many of my decisions and made real, positive changes. Owners are actively working to create a positive company culture.

Cons

Family-owned, so there are 'too many cooks in the kitchen.' Nepotism and favoritism has been a big hiring issue; leading to some employees not being qualified to do the job. Because the company is small, expect to wear many hats. Employee benefits and salary are less than ideal, but did improve during my time.

Good to Great

Pros

BaseCamp is a very good organization to work for and is on its way to being a really great company. The founders see the staff as family and they lead from the front. The company seeks its success by seeking it's franchisees success first. They are fiscally responsible in order to maintain long term stability.

Cons

The growth of the company has required BaseCamp to evolve from a small company to nearly 50 employees. For a while there they were behind the curve and staff was stretched to the limit. The company has now caught up with the increased need and the staffing level seems to be right sized. A new building has been purchased and the new space represents an exciting next chapter.

Basecamp Franchising Response

I'm glad to see that the work we're putting in to build a rewarding, professional, collaborative, and engaging working environment is being noticed. It's true that as we transitioned from a small company of less than 10 employees to almost 50 we went through some awkward 'teenage' years, and appreciate the patience our entire team has shown. I too feel like we're moving in the right direction and believe our best years are ahead of us! -Scott Sloan, CEO
