      Management - New CEO Problems

      Pros

      Ok place to work if there were no management issues.

      Cons

      CEO might have vision to reduce costs but it is abysmal the way they handled their recent layoffs. No Talent review or anything. People were let go who were in key positions where as people are still there who are close to the CTO/Strategy team. No one was consulted i do not know how a top level officer can decide to layoff so many people and not in put in a plan, Most of the new managers who ere let go were top performers who got promoted when they offered early retirement couple of years back. It makes no sense they let go of so many people while retaining most. Guess they dont need talent just numbers.

      Pros

      Interesting work, truly exciting mission, opportunity to work in science, smart people. Lots of good changes (honesty, business focus) with new management. Fun opportunities to show work and compete for research money like shark tanks. Great retirement contribution. Lots of health plan choices. Pay is ok.

      Cons

      There have been lots of reviews about too much management and the recent layoff addressed some of that. Of course people who are laid off may have a negative view although many appreciate that the CEO explained why it needed to be done in a transparent and logical way. The company is making the changes needed to sustain and grow and is asking employees at all levels to participate in the changes to the work environment.

      Some really great and smart people. Flex time. Decent pay.

      Cons

      Terrible management. Most of the managers lack significant expertise in any technical field so they are unable to make proper decisions. Some managers are abusive to their staff. It is worse than `they just don't care'. Managers only care about their bonuses. There is a complete lack of communication between managers and their staff. Project staff are expected to work at least 20 hours per week on their own time to do many non-project tasks required by management. Too many rounds of layoffs. Selection of staff to be laid off seems arbitrary and clearly leans to laying off the most experienced staff.
