      Battelle is so top-heavy they are about to topple.

      Pros

      There are some very talented and motivated people at the local level. It's great to work with peers who inspire you to improve.

      Cons

      Battelle is clearly in financial trouble. But rather than trimming the fat at the top, they prefer to reduce and deny benefits for front line employees. Every year brings cuts to the point that salary and benefits are nowhere near competitive. It makes it worse when managers won't be candid about the situation. Getting graduate tuition assistance approved only to have support redacted after one semester is pretty shameful.

      Pros

      Interesting science (sometimes). Decent instruments. Legacy of company will serve one's resume well. Cost of living in Columbus is not bad, so salary is adequate.

      Cons

      Battelle has a long legacy of being an honest, diligent science company. Then it got highjacked, and is now a company that will say and do whatever it takes to get a gov't contract. Company has not only put out fraudulent message, and sometimes data, (breaking their own code of ethics) but now goes to deliberate lengths to purge all criticism. This will result in a tragedy eventually. That's top level view. For details this company is terrified of IT, and handicaps itself in the way it handles IT, data, etc. Company hires way too many people based on diversity, and thus gets far too many people who can't do the work properly.

      Pros

      Most of the employees that are not management are mission-driven, hard-working, and positive. They are an extremely creative group of scientists and engineers that anyone would proud to be associated with.

      Cons

      The management team of good 'ol boys are not trustworthy. They are duplicitous in their actions and are not interested in helping lower management and staff. They have no growth strategy and currently, they only have a cut, cut, cut strategy.
