Battelle reviews

Management is erratic, shortsighted, and petty, and this is destroying the company. Battelle reorganised three times in 18 months. Upper management either intentionally or incompetently pits groups against each other, nullifying the diversity of expertise which should be a strength. Charge out rates are ridiculous when compared to actual employee compensation leading to a lack of competitiveness. In the best of times it was difficult to navigate to interesting projects and advance. Now it is virtually impossible while adhering to our published core values. In short the company is fading. It will die out slow then fast.

Since Jeff Wadsworth assumed leadership about 6 years ago he has totally trashed its historic culture, discarded all the ideals that made Battelle great, and remolded Battelle into "just another ordinary big company" that is run more by bean counters than by visionaries. He has discarded Battelle's former focus on the long term and has replaced it with a beancounter's (or freshly minted MBA's) fixation on the near term; now Battelle hires and fires practically on a project basis; it has been, and still is, discarding scores of people with deep knowledge and experience that would be practically irreplaceable in many difficult new projects....... all in the interests of keeping an attractive short term financial balance sheet. The unique pride that employees once had in the Institute have been lost along with morale. Sad.
