Pros

Amazing depth and breadth of technical expertise. THIS is what sets Battelle apart from the competition-- the ability to bring top-notch technical talent to bear on the most challenging government and commercial problems.

Cons

It is difficult to not mirror other reviews. Poor long term planning, colossal internal project over-spends, and chasing short-term financial carrots (including ridiculous VP-level incentive goals) result in a volatile, pins-and-needles work environment. Technical staff have been turned into hamsters on the time-worked wheel, with little time for development or growth outside of project work. New grandiose yet vacant buildings, nonsensical "synergies" between product lines, and poorly implemented enterprise management systems (read: VP / CxO "vision") have all been sinks to Battelle's bottom line, while core technical activities keep us afloat. But barely. And at the cost of long term staff satisfaction, technical growth, and Battelle's position as a preeminent technical powerhouse.

Pros

Every day I have the honor of working with incredibly talented and intelligent people in support of an important mission. The pay is very competitive, the 401K match is better than most, the on-site cafeteria is pretty good and they even have an on-site gym and fitness programming. I'm usually pleasantly surprised by something new at work every day. There isn't really any place like Battelle given its non-profit mission to do scientific research while doing the greatest good for humanity. The company's scientific research history is pretty amazing too, and you know it because Battelle even has their own on-campus library. Leadership is moving the company in the right direction. One thing I've never had at another company, they match up to $10K of charitable contributions to your favorite charities. There are new initiatives to support car-pooling, alternative transportation and there's even talk of electric vehicle charging. Yay!

Cons

The company is in need of a positive culture change, and I think it is finally starting to happen. Change isn't easy and isn't always welcome, but I think leadership is doing the hard work to make the necessary change. Some buildings are antiquated, while others are starting to look like they belong in the twenty-first century. Some benefits have been scaled back, but still feel competitive compared to similar types of companies.

Mission, Good people (but be careful), 401K matching, close to OSU and downtown. onsite cafeteria and gym. Historic projects and buildings.

Cons

MGMT & PEOPLE : Weak leadership teams, mostly "yes men & women" who will turn on a dime, lack of entry-level promotion opportunities, vague org vision, no trust from mgmt and vice versa, toxic culture , and corporate POLITICS are they basis of the decisions. Making another restructure with same LT. Really? This is why your in the spot your in today...poor financial decisions. MARKET PENETRATION : shallow market penetration ( What's Battelle's core capabilities? Don't buy the National Lab pitch). Sales & PMO teams lacks customer engagement, interaction, and understanding of government contracts. Poor Backlog & Sales pipelines. No agility to market changes, much less internally. Can't be a major market player with high rates, poor sales team, and vague vision. PROCESSES: None. All custom and ad-hoc reporting
