Pros
I really liked my co-workers and a lot of the managers. They do offer different training classes that relate to careers in retail, but the classes weren't great quality and were very specific to the company. Extra days off for Monday holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc). Good for getting experience right out of college
Cons
Unless you are a new grad looking to get 1-2 years of experience and move on, I would avoid this place like the plague. Everyone is severely overworked and very stressed. In a time when most employers are realizing the downfall of overworked and unhappy employees, Bealls is doing the opposite. It's common for employees to stay an extra hour after work every day and still have to come in on Saturdays just to keep up with the basics of what is demanded of them. And don't expect to leave on time, ever. I was directly told not to leave at 5:00 even if it was a slow day and I was finished with my work because "it looks bad". A co-worker was told the same thing by a different manager. It's the company culture. Pay and benefits are terrible. They match $100 of your 401k regardless of contribution. Annual raises are between 2-3% which doesn't equate to much when you start out with such low pay. You could go to another retailer in the area and get paid a lot more for the same job with less stress. Benefits are expensive for what you get. Employee discount is only 20% which is a lot lower than other retailers. Internal promotions are a joke. They hire out of convenience and it's a known problem. You'll get promoted if your manager quits or you befriend your boss, that's it. There are many more cons, but those are some of the worst. Like the title says, if you need experience it's great, but I wouldn't plan on staying long.
