Pros

The corporate office is very nice as it has been updated recently, the company is not in debt, they have so many employees that you are not overwhelmed. There are a lot of positions but that is because turn over is very high! Training programs are good!

Cons

There is so much wrong here. First, there is no work/life balance!! They expect you to always be on time and if you are late you need to make it up (even a couple minutes)! If it is snowing- oh well! Get your butt to the office or you loose a vacation day!! Summer Fridays.... do not exist, so don't expect that. The office is an igloo. You would think being nicely redone they would have a good heating system. No! Oh and you cannot bring a heater so you are left to freeze all day. My boss hardly spoke to me but told another colleague what to tell me. I think I interacted with her once or zero times a week. Health insurance is ridiculous, it didn't start up until after 3 months of being with the company and 401k and personal days do not start until a year with the company. Parking is very limited and systems are all old. They won't upgrade the systems because they are cheap. Discount you ask? Same as the coupon you get in the mail, a big 20%!! I hardly had any work half the time, i didn't understand why I was even hired. I was bored out of my mind most of the time. I was also treated like I couldn't handle simple tasks and was babied by the department which was extremely annoying. There are also a lot of cliques within the office and a lot of talking bad about other people. Turnover is very high, within a couple of months, I've seen a handful of people in one department leave!

Pros

You get to leave to a better position elsewhere!

Cons

As a previous individual stated "Be careful about taking a job in the corp. office! The position I took paid well, but the management and culture were horrific!! Management treats their people very poorly and turnover is high in many departments. If you look on their website there are always TONS of jobs available. Wondering why? Because Bed Bath does not value their people....Just like anything, if you think something is too good to be true, it probably is....It was easy to get hired at a good salary, putting up with the bosses and culture you have to work in...not so easy." To add, the management are clueless, you have one that during an interview, will rudely interrupt you without reason. I have no idea how this person got the position, oh wait, he worked at the same company as the greasy man above him! Cronyism is alive and well here. You have people slogging through the wrong technology attempting to do something that is relatively simple and they are adamant about it. There is a high attrition rate, and I have no doubt why. The culture is atrocious and you are peppered with ridiculous rules and management does NOT value your skills, they like to act like blowhards and pompous buffoons. I suppose this is the part in which they excel. If you have extensive experience, they will trounce you in order to make themselves feel better. They also poorly use SCRUM methodologies. I never seen groups that speak about parts of projects that have nothing to do with one another. I can attest, that the negatives that others state are only the tip of the iceberg. Your position would be in flux, you might as well call yourself a CEO since your title and position would not reflect properly what you do. I hold the CEO accountable, because the culture reflects upon him. If I were him, I would purge management and start over. A very dissatisfying company! Go elsewhere, there are many companies out there and particularly within IT that are a thousand times better. You have been warned.

Pros

Pay can be very good if you get it when you come in, the raises have been very poor since the recession despite high performance for the company. If you are hoping for good raises/ good salary bump from promotions it is unlikely. Example, they reduced the store management bonuses by having inventory every other year(so you miss out on an LP bonus every other year) and reducing the number of mystery shops per year thereby making it more difficult to hit bonus for customer service. Interesting mix of merchandise, discount is not great but good deals do go on the monthly incentives(every month a different small selection of merch is available to associates at basically cost) can be very useful to collecting a nice houseful of useful items Company is completely sound financially, no debt just rolling profits back into stock buybacks which isn't bad for managers being bonused with stock. There is a current mini exodus of senior level store management, ASM's and SM's, in Chicagoland in 2013 so there is some opportunity to jump on board. They do enable you to really take care of customers/ go beyond normal expectations which is great for the customers and can feel really positive for you if only that same attitude applied to employees.

Cons

Antiquated systems, everyone says this but this company really takes the cake. Internal computer systems like JDA that are DOS based and materially haven't changed in almost 10 years. Redundancies and inefficiencies are almost boundless throughout all; JDA, bednet/portal, estore finally got just got improvements so that caught up to most other retailers from 5 years ago. Culture became progressively more abusive over the years in management. Over-reliance on claimed operational efficiency improvements to reduce payroll and headcount over the years, some of it is real and did actually make an impact but a lot of it boils down to the reality that cutting a cake 6 ways or 12 leaves you with the same amount, the slack is picked up by managers working more/ pushing already over-tasked associates for more more more which is just burn and churn. The risk of getting a poor mystery shop score/ customer complaint is like having a knife being held over you at all times, if you're in management and either of these things happen directly related or mentioning to you it will negatively impact your review/ result in a possible write up etc. BBB stores are done with major growth so the opportunities for advancement have greatly diminished as now its more about who you know, who gets fired or quits, more chance than ability. Store level management autonomy and authority has steadily been decreasing over the years, to a point now that even simple things like having a formal conversation with a minimum wage associate needs an HR review beforehand and you have a district level nanny for everything; district manager, operations trainer, HR, LP, customer service. Its like being in High School where every teacher thinks that their subject is the only one you have.
