Pros

the discounts are okay and the sales are not that bad

Cons

do so much work for a little amount and the hours are really long. the holiday hours are awful. since this is a small independently owned company you think they would put family first but they don't.

Pros

The main reason I continue to work here is because of the people that I work with everyday.

Cons

The pay is not great at all. I have a college degree and I have learned multiple jobs here including sales associate, gift wrapper, operations team associate, and merchandise processor but new people are hired everyday making more than I do. When the store is short handed they seem to call on me but yet it is not reflected in my pay. I originally changed jobs because I was told I would have better hours and off on the weekends but with all of the new changes corporate is making I find myself working more and more weekend hours. My manager works her butt off and the only people that sees that are the sales associates. The other managers down talk her even though she is there from morning til night majority of the time making sure all of the work gets done.

Pros

Flexible work schedule, ok benefits package. The co workers are some of the best people I have ever met, and we will remain close even though I'm not there.Belk does a lot of community service events which is a decent thing.I've worked for larger retailers and found that Belk has a close knit family feel, particularly amongst sales staff. We would often have store "parties" for the customers with music, food, etc. for sales events.

Cons

Not enough floor coverage most days. Employees end up working all over the store. Low pay, no raise if you don't meet Belk charge card quota. There are some very talented sales people there, but management doesn't utilize them properly. Staff is generally over worked and understaffed. Staff spends time outside of their designated departments, to cover other areas, leaving their department uncovered. Customers are often frustrated because they can't find anyone to ring them up.
