Pros

Vacations, personal days, decent benefits. They give you a big discount on the merchandise, when combined with stuff that is on clearance you can get a really good deal.

Cons

It's like working in the Mafia, everyone is out to stab you in the back. They tell you that want you to whip your associates into shape and make them preform better but they don't allow you to discipline then either. You can't give raises to your good employees without them meeting ridiculous pre-determined goals that are basically unobtainable for the smaller stores. They want you to stay and work past your shift to get stuff done all the time (if your salary you will live in your store). The pay is terrible, the management has no clue what is really going on in the stores and live in a fairy land.

Pros

A lot of freedom. Associates have a code that enables them to perform returns and exchanges, reduce prices, allow coupons to work...Basically anything that a manager can do, an associate can. This is convenient and makes for a happy customer...And it's a good feeling that they trust your judgement and discretion. A very teamwork-focused environment. Yes, you are competing for sales, but in your department it is up to you and your team to figure out strategies for completing sale sets, wall changes, etc. Also, as long as your floor is covered, there is no issue with you going to the bathroom or taking a break to get a drink of water or rest your feet. Managers make sure you are doing your job but for the most part it's very lax.

Cons

Since you have so much freedom, managers mostly just don't want to be bothered and have very high expectations. Pay is minimal, and if you are working in the wrong department, it's can be very difficult to make your sales (which results in pay cuts). Pay-for-Performance works to your advantage in the ladies department, but against you in departments such as accessories or intimates.
